Computing

At Springfield Infants School and Nursery, we aim to ensure that our children are given the opportunity to engage in a range of computing experiences and which equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world through digital means. We aim to provide the children with the opportunity to gain the confidence and abilities to use Computing and Information Technology effectively in their learning through a cross curricular curriculum. We will enable the children to understand that computing has a purpose that is much wider than perceived and that in the future much of their lives; both socially and vocationally, will take place in a digital world.  We will equip the children with the skills of how to be a responsible online citizen and how to keep themselves safe in the online world. Computing is taught as part of the wider curriculum in Reception and, at present, as stand-alone lesson in KS1 however we are hoping with the integration of new technologies this will change in the not-too-distant future. The children use iPads, IWBs and programable toys to learn about all the aspects of computing and computational thinking. They also learn aspects of computing, such as writing algorithms (instruction writing), directional language in maths and PE and computational thinking in design and technology and science.
