“Learning about the past helps us understand the future.” (Year 2 child)

It is our aim that all children at Springfield Infant School will understand what it is to be a 'historian'. For our children this will mean learning about how the world has changed and significant people in history. We will ensure children are given the opportunities and practical experiences to learn about those people and how the world has changed. History will be taught with a keen focus on developing a secure knowledge of their own family history, history of the local area and of the UK as well as significant people in UK history. Opportunities will be given to develop a range of historical skills, including how to using artefacts, fieldwork and observational experiences. The children will learn new vocabulary to use and this will provide them with the tools to express themselves and communicate their ideas clearly using historical terms.
